Prohousing Designation
ActiveThe City of Anaheim has applied for a state Prohousing Designation. We support responsible housing, but this designation risks limiting the City's ability to weigh wildfire evacuation, traffic, parking, and neighborhood safety on a project-by-project basis. Residents can send a letter asking the Mayor and City Council to oppose the application and keep housing decisions local and accountable.

Please oppose Anaheim's Prohousing Designation application
Dear Mayor Aitken and Members of the Anaheim City Council, I support responsible housing development in Anaheim, but I am asking you to oppose the City's Prohousing Designation application. Anaheim needs housing, and I understand the importance of creating opportunities for new homes. However, supporting housing does not mean the city should give up local control or agree to policies that limit Anaheim's ability to respond to real-world problems. Every project is different. Some may be appropriate, while others may create serious concerns with traffic, parking, infrastructure, public safety, wildfire evacuation, or neighborhood compatibility. The City Council needs to preserve its ability to evaluate each project on its own merits and require changes when necessary. Please oppose the Prohousing Designation application and keep Anaheim's housing decisions local, balanced, and accountable. Sincerely,

Prohousing Designation and wildfire evacuation safety
Dear Mayor Aitken and Members of the Anaheim City Council, I am writing to ask you to oppose the City's Prohousing Designation application because of its potential impact on public safety in our fire-prone hillside communities. I am especially concerned that this designation does not appear to clearly protect Anaheim's ability to address wildfire evacuation issues or other safety concerns. Much of Anaheim Hills sits in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone with limited evacuation routes that are already strained. Housing production should not come at the expense of public safety. I am also concerned that the Prohousing framework rewards reduced or inadequate parking, which can push cars onto the same narrow streets we rely on to evacuate. Good housing policy should create livable, survivable communities. Please keep the Council's full authority to weigh evacuation and safety on every project, and oppose the Prohousing Designation application. Sincerely,
